I wish

to walk down that tree lined path when the leaves are falling
and when you breathe, it is the smell of fall you taste. Your breath,
sweet from pumpkin spice, is warm on my face
as you whisper an innocent 'I love you' and smile.

It is so busy around us.
Just you and me.
And the leaves. And the trees.
The sound of laughter can be heard from a nearby yard; children undoubtedly forming leaf piles and jumping in them.
This is the time that I love. Pumpkin pies baking in the oven, hot apple cider in my favorite mug, handmade scarves
and the refreshing crunch of the leaves.

I want autumn to overwhelm me.
I want to stand on that path and breathe deeply, eyes closed, immortalizing this moment
in my mind forever.

I know things will change; rain will fall.
The leaves will become soggy and slippery patterns of red, gold, and brown
will blanket the walkway.

Then snow will come;
bitter and fierce, and I will want to walk on the path again,
this time with you and snowflakes sticking to our hair.

Just walking. Silenced by those few frosty moments.
